The Centre for Governance and Public Management (CGPM) is part of the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Its mandate is to impart undergraduate and postgraduate education in the area of Public Management/Policy, to conduct trainings, and carry out related high quality research and construct dialogue around pertinent public policy issues in the country.
In 2015, CGPM introduced the widely popular Minor program in Public Management at LUMS which offers eleven courses in the filed of Public management to the student body, ranging from courses rooted in Policy Analysis and Administration to those exploring the intersection of gender and finance. Currently, CGPM is working on a Masters program in Public Policy & Management, which will be offered in the academic year of 2018.CGPM has a research-active faculty, which regularly publishes in national and international journals and books. It’s academic and research focus includes legal and institutional reform in the public sector, public sector management (particularly in education, health, agriculture and energy), rural social structures, and gender and policy.
Under the the Assessment and Strengthening Program, the center conducted over 150 training programs for senior and mid-career public and non-profit sector managers. The center successfully trained more than 3000 such participants in a wide spectrum of courses, such as, Financial Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, Procurement Audit, Human Resource Management, Leadership, Fiscal Decentralization, and Communications. Its large and diverse portfolio places the Centre in a unique position as a premier training provider in Pakistan. Currently, CGPM also offers executive courses, which focuses on providing world-class training of federal and provincial civil servants.
Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB)
The Suleman Dawood School of Business, established in 1986, was the first school instituted at LUMS. SDSB was founded with the vision of becoming a leading management school in the region, with a truly global perspective, recognized for research and teaching excellence. Accordingly, SDSB is ranked as the best business school in Pakistan, as per the rankings issued in 2013 by the Higher Education Commission, and is the only management school from Pakistan to hold accreditation from the South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS) of the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA). The school has also been awarded full-member status of the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools, and is a member of the European Foundation for Management Development as well.
